Back in November, Nick and I were trying to decide where we wanted to go for spring break. Both of us are Juniors at the University of New Hampshire and this year we would be celebrating our 6 year anniversary of dating. After a long discussion, making lots of pros and cons lists of a bunch of tropical places and recommendations from friends and families, we decided to book a trip to Aruba. We booked this trip on Black Friday which was probably the smartest decision of the whole trip because the resort was running a sale. We booked a 5 night, 6 day stay at the RIU Palace. The RIU owns the resort we stayed at and the resort next to us so we were able to go back and forth between each hotel using all the amenities. The hotel was also all-inclusive with lots of restaurants and bars. We took full advantage of this eating and drinking endless amounts. We left on Friday from Logan Airport, took a nonstop flight to Aruba, and we flew home on Wednesday. This was a trip of a lifetime. Here is a break down of our trip to Aruba
Day 1 - Friday
An early start to the day! We left Cape Cod at 3:00 am to catch our flight at 6:30 am. We boarded the plane and the moment we got into our seats Nick was asleep. I watched movies and enjoyed my coffee. Our plane landed 45 minutes early, which was a sign this vacation was going to be amazing. We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel.
We got to RIU, and as soon as we stepped inside we received glasses of champagne. We checked in at the front desk and were able to get an early check-in. We then went upstairs, changed into our bathing suits and spent the rest of the day hopping between the pool and the beach. We had an early dinner at Nautilus Steak House (inside our resort), watched the sunset, and went to bed.
Day 2 - Saturday
To start the day we did a beach workout and ran to Eduardo's Beach Shack. There we got acai bowls and sat at the beach and ate them. We spent a lot of the day walking up and down the beach collecting sea glass, swimming in the ocean, and getting drinks from the swim-up bar at our hotel.
For lunch, we went to Bugaloe Beach Bar and Grill which had very tasty food and it is set up on a pier. Your tables are on a deck over the water and the only clothes mandatory are shoes and a bathing suit.
We walked back to the hotel and spent the rest of the day just hanging out and enjoying the sun!
For dinner we went to Krystals Restaurant (in our resort) then watched a show at the stage in the resort which was a couples contest and then a live DJ.
Day 3 - Sunday
We woke up, grabbed a quick breakfast at the hotel and headed down to the pool to get our spot for the day. We headed back to the room after lunch to go... DUNE BUGGYING!
We got picked up in a bus from our hotel at 1:50 pm and headed to the site to start our adventure for the day. The company we used was Around Aruba Tours. When we got to the site we were at an animal farm where we got to feed camels, monkeys, horses, and ostriches. There was a cute mini bar hut, I got a margarita and Nick got water since he was driving (lol), then we got to pick out our buggy and we were on our way!
Staring at 2:30 pm, we got to drive all over the island seeing the natural bridges, Aruba's most well-known landmarks, and got to swim in a natural pool. It was so much fun, 10/10 recommendation.
We got back to the hotel around 6:30 pm, showered, changed, and got dinner at Don Nichols Restaurant (in our resort).
After dinner, we meet up with our friends who were also in Aruba and went to Moomba Beach Bar and got drinks and lived it up on the dance floor.
Day 4 - Monday
We slept in late and got room service for breakfast. Today we planned to just have a relaxing day at the pool and beach!
For lunch, we went back to Eduardo's Beach Shack and got the best vegan tacos and poke bowls. We spent the whole day in the sun, reading our books, swimming and drinking mojitos
We decided to head to the room and watch the sunset with drinks before we got dinner. We were celebrating our anniversary a few days early and had the most amazing Italian food at Giannis Restaurant Aruba .... Speechless. We were served champagne when we got there in honor of our anniversary. We got a charcuterie board and mussels to start then got spaghetti with meatballs for dinner. They prep the pasta tableside in a massive cheese wheel. (video posted on my Aruba highlight on Instagram)! After dinner, we walked around downtown and got drinks at Craft x Lola.
Day 5 - Tuesday
This morning we woke up to an Instagram post from Tom Brady about him leaving the Patriots, let's just say it was very silent breakfast.
We spent the whole day at the beach swimming and enjoying our last day... drinking lots of lemon drop shots!
We had lunch at Don Nichols and we spent the day in bathing suits. We ended the day by getting take out from the restaurant at the hotel and ate it on the beach watching the sunset with drinks from the swim-up bar.
Day 6 - Wednesday
We woke up early and worked out before our travel day home. After working out we got breakfast at Kadushi Juice Bar and just sat at the beach enjoying the sun and coffee. We walked up and down the beach until it was time to change and get ready to leave.
We packed up the room and headed toward the airport, a very bittersweet time to be heading home. We arrived at the airport at 11:00 am, got on our flight at 2:30 pm, and we arrived at Logan airport at 7:45pm.
There are definitely a lot more activities and restaurants to try the next time we go. We wanted a very relaxing and enjoyable time together and this was perfect!
