Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised on Cape Cod and currently reside in Centerville with my husband Jake. I am passionate about helping individuals heal themselves with movement and nutrition. I started my own business, Simply Rooted Soul, after graduating from Institute For Integrative Nutrition. Rooted Soul offers Integrative Nutritional Health Coaching and Simply Rooted Meals. Alongside Simply Rooted Soul, I work and manage Wellbeloved Wellness. Wellbeloved Wellness offers fitness classes at Elite Nation Studios, as well as nutrition and overall wellness programs and products. I am an Elite Nation Fitness Instructor and teach Buti Yoga and Barre. I work A LOT and I love what I do. Outside of work I love to go on adventures, work on my home, and spend time with my husband and dog.

What inspired/motivated your healthy lifestyle?

At different points in my life, I felt really lost. I was struggling physically, mentally, and emotionally. The decisions I was making weren’t bringing my life joy and I knew the only person who could change that for myself was myself, because I was all I had. I didn’t necessarily have this certain moment or person that inspired my healthy lifestyle. I decided that if I couldn’t see the light, I would become it. I started to make changes and decisions in my life for myself which led me to discover my purpose in life which is to help others heal through movement and whole-body health & wellness. I signed up for my first barre certification in October 2015 and enrolled in IIN Health Coach Training Program shortly after. It was hard for me to find my flow. It took me time, change, and hard decisions to finally begin to trust my unique journey and not to fear the unknown of my decisions.

What is your biggest tip on starting a healthy lifestyle?

I have two tips; they go hand in hand. The first tip is to admit to yourself that the lifestyle you are choosing is not allowing you to feel and be your best self. My next tip is to simply begin. So many people wait for Monday, or New Years, or after the holiday’s… start making small goals and small steps toward your health.

What does a day of eating usually look like for you?

Breakfast: Oatmeal with cinnamon, flax seeds, chia seeds, blueberries, apples.

Snack: Celery with peanut butter / cheese & grapes / cucumbers with hummus.

Snack: Energy smoothie: pineapple, banana, blueberries, spinach, cinnamon, cocoa, maca, almond butter, coconut milk.

Lunch: Tonnino lemon tuna, white beans, green onion, red onion salad.

Dinner: Salmon with cauliflower mashed. arugula, goat cheese, tomato salad with balsamic dressing.

Snack: Popcorn.

What is your ultimate favorite meal to make?

Chili in the crockpot. Easy, delicious, and you can have it as soup, stuffed in a sweet potato, or over chickpea pasta!

Where do you see your business going in the next 5-10 years?

I see my business growing and changing to serve my community with services that I feel are needed on Cape Cod.

Any advice for people looking to start their own small business?

You have to believe in your brand and vision because at times you will be the only one who does. Speak out to the universe what you want for yourself and your business, don’t give up and like Matthew McConaughey says.. "always play like the underdog".

You also teach Buti Yoga along with many other classes. Can you tell us about Buti Yoga?

Buti Yoga is a movement methodology that helps you connect with a wild and primal aspect of yourself. The practice incorporates spiral structure technique® used to activate our deep core muscles paired with intentional shaking & vibration to release trauma stored at the cellular level. Primal movement, cardio dance + conditioning are seamlessly woven throughout balanced yoga sequencing to give you an ALL-IN-ONE workout that helps you transform your BODY + SOUL. In Marathi, the language spoken in parts of western India, Buti means "a cure that has been hidden or kept secret.” In each Buti class, the movement clears away stuck energy and revitalizes the body to help individuals shift their perception of the world around them.

What got you started in teaching/doing Buti Yoga?

I took my first Buti Yoga class in 2016. Honestly, I was like what is this? I was so judgmental and closed minded. However, after I left, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. After my second class, I cried like a baby for an hour. I felt like I had discovered a part of myself I was searching for so long. I knew that my judgment from the first class came from a place of self-doubt and walls I had built from my past experience. Little did I know that this movement was exactly what I needed. It has helped to reveal an energy in myself that I didn’t realize I had kept buried. Every day I am beyond grateful for what Buti Yoga has done for me not just physically, but mentally. It’s helped me grow, transform, and be the best version of myself I can be.

What is your favorite part of being a fitness instructor?

I love to create other leaders, not followers. Being a fitness instructor has made me a stronger person physically, but also mentally & emotionally. When I realized the change happening in me through movement, I wanted to spread that to everyone. The opportunity to lead my community & witness the same transformation in them as I have seen in myself over the years, is an indescribable feeling. We heal each other by inspiring and uplifting each other.

What is your favorite workout clothes brand?

I love Alo Yoga sports bras, Athleta pants, & Lulu Lemon everything!

What do you do when you feel stressed or overwhelmed?

I talk about it. Talking it out and coming up with a game plan and a solution help me feel better always.
